FuzziBunz Cloth Diapers Review

fuzzibunz cloth diaper reviewAs the largest cloth diaper brand on the market, FuzziBunz has a lot of unique features that sets it apart from the other brands of washable diapers. There are two different styles of diapers in their product line, the FuzziBunz one size cloth diaper adjusts with snaps to fit any size baby, and the FuzziBunz perfect size cloth diaper which comes in XS-L sizes. The perfect size fits newborns weighing as little as 4 pounds up to toddlers weighing 40 pounds.

The two diapers are so similar in features that the only major difference is in the rows of snaps that allow you to change the size of the “one size” diaper. I’m just going to describe the features of the one size diaper below as it also applies to the “perfect size” cloth diaper. If you want to see the difference between the two, check out the section below on FuzziBunz One Size Diapers vs FuzziBunz Perfect Size Diapers.

FuzziBunz One Size Review

I have the latest FuzziBunz one size cloth diaper and where FuzziBunz stands out from the other reusable diaper brands is in design.

First of all, the system of adjustable snaps lets you change the size of the diaper into more than 30 different sizes. You can adjust the waist size, the length of the diaper and even the elastic area around the leg openings. So the “one size” diaper will fit a combination of body shapes from thin waisted to chubby legs.

Secondly, this is the only washable diaper that I’ve ever seen with a well designed pocket and liner system. This makes FuzziBunz cloth diapers super easy to wash without getting poop and pee all over your hands. Just open the back pocket and use a sprayer to clean off the surface of the soiled diaper. Then shake the diaper up and down several times over your diaper bin and the soiled liner will fall right out. There’s no need to reach in there and pull out the liner!

Third, this is one of the few reusable diapers that closes with snaps instead of velcro. As many cloth diaper veterans know, velcro turns fuzzy and loses its strength after several uses and washes. This means little hands can easily rip off the diapers or the diapers fall off at the most inconvenient times. Unlike velcro closures, snaps are durable and will never wear down like velcro. Plus they are extremely difficult for babies to rip open, so you don’t have to worry about grabby little hands.

The FuzziBunz “One Size” Reusable Diaper fits babies ranging from 7 pounds to as much as 30 pounds so one set of FuzziBunz can diaper your baby from newborn to toddler. Each diaper system comes with the outer diaper cover with a pocket to insert liners plus two washable liners. The entire diaper including the liners and outside cover are made to be worn once and have to be washed every time they’re soiled so you will need about 20-30 diapers per baby if you do not want to do a load of laundry every day.

What You Get When You Buy FuzziBunz One Size Cloth Diapers

Each diaper comes with…

  • the outside cover with a pocket for insertable liners,
  • two microfiber liners,
  • and elastic band replacements for the leg openings.

What I Would Change About FuzziBunz Diapers

There are some features that I found a bit annoying about these diapers.

  • First of all I would prefer if the inner liner were made of flannel or cotton instead of microfiber. I feel the microfiber is “sticky” and extremely difficult to clean and dry. Flannel is just as absorbant and much easier to take care of.
  • Another thing is the pocket for the liners are very narrow so you won’t be able to use liners from other washable diapers in your FuzziBunz. So you can’t reuse old liners left from other cloth diapers and will have to buy new ones from FuzziBunz if you need any extras.  I’ve found a solution to this problem.  Just buy cheap cotton diapers like the Gerber brand and cut them up.  Then fold them to the right size and you can use them as  a liner in your FuzziBunz.  The great thing about using prefolds/flats as liners is that they can be unfolded when you wash and dry them.  This makes it easy to wash out all the mess and they dry really quick compared to normal liners and soaker pads.

FuzziBunz One Size vs Perfect Size

Even though their One Size model is the most popular, the FuzziBunz Perfect Size diaper has quite the loyal following too. These cloth diapers come in four sizes ranging form extra small (4-12 pounds) to large (25-40 pounds). The only difference between the two types of diapers is the lack of snaps for adjusting the diaper size.

How To Use FuzziBunz One Size Diapers

FuzziBunz On A Newborn

The perfect size diapers fit some babies better than the one size diapers especially for babies who run on the extra small or large side. Smaller babies like newborns might be overwhelmed by the regular one size diaper and in this case a FuzziBunz perfect size diaper in X-Small will be a better choice until they grow bigger. This is especially true if you find that the one size diaper fits too high on their waist and irritates the umbilical cord. I would recommend that you get a set of X-Small Fuzzibunz diapers to tide you over until your baby is in the 10-20 pound range, then you can graduate up to a set of “one size” diapers for the rest of their infancy.

Why You Should Buy FuzziBunz Online From Amazon.com

While you may find FuzziBunz diapers at your local baby store or another diaper store, I really like buying them from Amazon due to their generous 1 year return policy. FuzziBunz is already covered by a one year limited warranty by the manufacturer, but Amazon has a better returns policy for baby products. Even if you have to return the diapers just because the size wasn’t right, you can do so! Can you imagine that kind of service at a big box retailer these days?

Also, the bonus of buying Fuzzibunz online is that you will always have a copy of your receipt in your Amazon account. This is the receipt that you will need if you call the FuzziBunz company if you have any problems with your diapers and need an exchange or other warranty service.

If you buy your FuzziBunz from somewhere else, you’ll have to keep your receipts in a safe place and hope you remember where you placed them…

  1. When the diapers start leaking at the stiches run don’t walk to get them replaced. I started using my Fuzzibunz in September and some of them began leaking in March. Problem is I bought them in February. Does their customer service care. Nope. I spent a great deal of time and energy to determine that it was their product and not the way I was using them. Waste of time they leaked at the stiches no matter the inserts or how they are prepped. Roll the dice if you want or use a company that cares if it makes a faulty product.

    1. Hi Lisa,

Thanks for telling us about your experience! It’s a shame that the Fuzzibunz customer service handled things the way they did. Where did you buy your diapers, maybe you can try getting a refund or exchange through the retailer instead?

    1. Hi Britney,

If you want to go all the way in and just use reusable diapers, you should buy about 8-12 to try out first. That should be enough for 1 day of diapering with 1 day of washing/drying in between. Then if you’re *sure* you want to keep cd’ing, you can buy more of the same or try out other styles of cloth diapers.

If you want to slowly ease your way in, you can just get a couple (3-4) to try out and alternate with regular disposable diapers. 🙂
