Snappi Cloth Diaper Fastener Review

snappi-diaper-pins-reviewToo scared to cloth diaper?

Many people are scared of cloth diapers because they are afraid of poking their baby with sharp safety pins. Not to fear!  Modern technology has taken care of the problem and gotten rid of dangerous pins. Snappi fasteners are stretchy plastic bands that grip onto diapers to hold them in place.  And not a pin in sight either!

How To Use Snappi Reusable Diaper Fasteners

Do…

  • Wash your Snappis with cold water and soap.
  • Attach The upper ends to the top left and right corners of the diaper.  The remaining end goes in between your baby’s legs to close the diaper.

Don’t…

  • Wash Snappis with hot water as this will make them fragile and prone to snapping.
  • Use Snappis with thin fabrics like Gerber’s pre-folds, the fabrics are not thick enough and will tear.

How Do Snappi Diaper Fasteners Work?

There are teeth on each end of the Snappi that grip onto the fabric of cloth diapers. Most babies can’t figure out how to remove them so don’t worry about your little one ripping off their diapers by themselves!

Can You Use Snappis For All-In-One Diapers or Diaper Covers?

Yes!  If you use a prefold or flats inside your diaper covers, you can use snappis to make sure they stay in place and don’t bunch up inside the covers.

Snappi’s are made for regular flat or prefolded diapers need to be held closed with diaper pins. Since Snappi fasteners work by gripping onto the fabric of diapers with little teeth, it will not work with fabrics that cannot be gripped like microfiber or thin gauzy weaves. I’ve found that these fasteners work best with thick woven cotton fabrics like OSoCozy cotton pre-folds. Washable diapers made of microfiber or hemp cloth may not work as well with Snappis since they do not have a weave for the fasteners to grip on to.

How Much Do Snappis Cost?

The Snappis come in packs of three  and last for many months. Snappi fasteners come in different sizes starting with “size 1” for newborns and babies up to 18 pounds. The largest size Snappis will fit potty training toddlers.

Why I Love Snappis So Much

I really love these fasteners since we use prefolds for night time diapering. Snappis are super easy to use even half asleep in the middle of the night. They take less than 20 seconds to secure even with a wiggling baby and I could not imagine going back to old fashioned diaper pins.

Should You Buy Snappi Diaper Fasteners?

I’m a thrifty spender and think most of the gadgets marketed to new parents are a waste of money. However Snappis are definitely worth the couple of dollars they cost. They don’t cost a lot more than a pack of regular diaper pins and a set can last for a very long time, making the cost per diapering less than a couple cents. They’re cheap enough that you can get one pack to try and even if you don’t like them you won’t end up broke. Where can you get Snappis? Amazon.com sells Snappis
